This former in-house photographer for media giant, Media 24, completed his National Diploma in photography at Cape Town’s very own Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He started, like most photographers, as an assistant to established photographers. He assisted all through his studies and when he finally completed his diploma, went straight to New York to gain international experience and to better his knowledge of his chosen career.


Within six years of working as a full time photographer, his images have been published in dozens of local magazines; covers and editorials, ranging from travel magazines to interiors, as well as fashion and beauty work.


Dawie is a specialist in food photography and his skills with lighting and composition brings to life his décor images. He has shot numerous covers for the award winning Woolworths Taste Magazine, and continues to shoot countless culinary supplements and editorials for an array of food and décor magazines. His images have been published in no less than five cookbooks, including  South African chef Jenny Morris’ Good Food Nude Rude Food and More Rude Food. He has also shot with BBC chef Alan Coxon and British designer Sebastian Conran. He has also photographed the food of Ainsley Harriot and Bill Granger.


Besides food and décor, Dawie has a real knack for portraiture. He tends to record a calm discreet moment that connects the viewer to the image in a more meaningful way. He has photographed many South African celebrities including South African Finance Minister Trevor Manual, former SA Rugby captain Corne Krige , SA Cricket captain Graham Smith and SA film director Regard Van den Berg


Dawie has also been travelling a lot the past 4 years - mostly for the award winning South African travel magazine Weg! and its English counterpart Go! He has visited more than 15 countries, hiked hundreds of kilometres, kayaked many rivers, cycled more than a thousand kilometres - all to get that perfect image for his clients. Its safe to say that he is also a traveller at heart.


In South Africa Dawie has built up an impressive repertoire of publications and advertising clients. His known for always keeping his cool, staying calm and collected in a frenzy; his clients find him easy to work with and always accommodating.


Dawie now resides London exploring new territory for his work.
